The foundations have been created and you're feeling pretty good at this point. Now I want to help you understand how this has happened, making sure that you are comfortable with the process and feel resilient going forward. To do this, we continue learning about your body and what sensations mean and how to respond to them accordingly. We take a step back from the laser focused rehabilitation work and look at training more holistically for the long term.

Emphasis what you can do

The long term goal is to ensure that you are comfortable training and able to 'catch' any flair ups quickly and efficiently. Although we would have been discussing concepts such as load vs capacity in the previous stages - here you'll start to lead these conversations. I'll be asking you a lot of questions about what sensations mean for you and how to approach them, I'll ask you to explain any odd feelings before I give my thoughts and I'll continue to push you to rely on me less and less. Although the sessions will remain highly structured, I will explain the process of creating your workouts and why we are doing what we are - again this is all about building your knowledge for the future.

Learning before exploring

I strive to make sure that once we fix an issue, my clients don't message me again in 6, 12 or 18 months asking for help. Of course, they're more than welcome to and I won't ignore the message! However, the idea of the 'learning' phase is to avoid this happening. I hope that by answering your questions and sharing my knowledge, you feel empowered and capable of handling any future flair ups or new injuries.

 

There is no way to fully "bullet proof" your body for life and I can't say you'll never have a injury or flair up. I would also be incredibly skeptical of anyone who uses this sort of terminology. What I can do is help you become your most resilient self. The most prepared and confident you, that is able to meet any challenge head on regardless if that is performance or rehabilitation related. That is the goal of the learn phase of my ABLE process.
